Finance Committee Report
November, 2008

In July, 2008, at the annual Leadership Development Conference, the Smoky Mountain Chapter presented a request for a grant of $800 to offset the costs of their annual conference in Knoxville. They offered two incentives: (1) a discounted fee for registration if an attendee was a TCA member or joined as they registered, and (2) a reduced fee to join TCA that day – they offered a 50% discount. With the recommendation of the Finance Committee this grant was given to SMCA at LDC. The Smoky Mountain Chapter had 30 people either renew or join the day of their conference which has resulted in a large benefit to both the chapter and TCA.
The committee would like to continue to encourage all chapters and divisions of TCA to apply for grants if they have special projects that they believe to be of benefit to our membership. The application and guidelines are available on the TCA website at www.tncoumnselors.org . If further information is needed please feel free to contact Becky Murray at 1-877-730-3159 or bmurray48@hotmail.com .
The Finance Committee is also pleased to report that the TCA savings account which was switched to a money market savings account has continued to do well although the returns have been less due to a downturn in the market. But TCA continues to receive a much higher return than previously given on the account. The Finance Committee continues to pursue ways to improve TCA’s financial status in order to benefit our membership.
And for any chapter or division that hasn’t done so, we would continue to encourage them to apply for an EIN (Employer Identification Number) which can be used on your bank accounts instead of having to use someone’s social security number. If a chapter or division has a bank account on which interest is paid, having an EIN will eliminate having that interest reported on someone’s social security number. The following website can be used to apply for this number: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=98350,00.html . You can also contact me if you have questions about applying for this.
And many thanks to the chapters and divisions which have provided me with their banking information for filing our 990 tax return. I have asked the IRS for an extension in filing this year’s return and am continuing to collect banking information if any chapter or division would like to send it to me for inclusion with the TCA filing.
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Murray, Chair
