Building a Strong Leadership Team
Goal: 100% of the officers of TCA, its Divisions and Chapters will participate in leadership training each year at LDC and/or Conference beginning July 2008 and each year thereafter. – Executive Council
A. Provide leadership training specifically for officers of Chapters and Divisions at the Leadership Development Conference beginning in July 2008.
B. Require the Executive Director to maintain copies of all Handbooks and Bylaws for TCA, its divisions, and chapters beginning November, 2007.
C. Implement leadership training sessions for Chapters and Division at the annual TCA Conference beginning November, 2007.
D. Encourage chapter presidents to collaborate and plan meetings focused toward the needs of professional counselors in a variety of work settings beginning July 2008.
E. Review the vision statement at the March 2008 meeting to determine if it is the vision for the association.
Promoting the Organizational Structure, Management, and Resources
Goal: Revenue sources for TCA will increase by 5% each year compared with the revenue from the 2006 conference.
A. Strengthen TCA by requiring each Division and Chapter President and President-Elect to submit leadership reports beginning July (2008), and November, March, and June of each fiscal year. – President
B. Consult with legal representation regarding tax exempt status for TCA by November 2008. – Finance Chair
C. Establish a Conference Oversight Committee consisting of up to 5 past presidents, President-Elect, and Conference Chair by November 2007. – Immediate Past President
D. Revise Conference Handbook & Guidelines by November 2008. – Immediate Past President
E. Appoint by March 2008, a Development Committee with representation from each of the Grand Divisions. – Development Chair
F. The President of TCA should appoint a committee to re-visit policies and procedures and report progress to the Governing Council at the Leadership Development Conference in July 2009. – By-Laws Chair
Maintaining and Enhancing Membership
Goal: Membership will increase each fiscal year by 5% compared to the June 2007 membership report.
A. By February 2009, begin the process of evaluating the focus of the TCA newsletter to make it more relevant to the needs of the membership. – Newsletter Chair
B. Increase affiliation with colleges and universities by LDC 2009. – TACES President
C. Expand membership outreach to vocational technical centers, mental health facilities, military, government, correctional facilities, community agencies, and private practice by fall, 2010. – Membership Chair
D. Develop and implement a marketing plan beginning July, 2008 with review annually. – Membership Chair
E. Conduct a new member session at the annual Conference to provide an overview of TCA beginning November, 2007. – Membership Chair
F. In November 2009, add additional learning tracks at the TCA conference to address the needs of the diversity that exist in the association. Follow up each year with needs assessments. – TSCA, TMHCA, TACES, TAMCD
Advocating and Increasing Public Awareness and Support
Goal: TCA will advocate for and increase public awareness of the counseling profession by contacting a minimum of five entities each year beginning LDC 2009. – Public Relations Chair
A. Develop a process and procedure to educate and inform supervisors, school
board members, legislators, and the community at large on the roles and responsibilities of professional counselors beginning in July 2008.
B. Implementation of the procedures to educate and inform the various entities should begin by July 2009.
C. The advocacy and licensure chairs, and the legislative liaison should continue to address the impact of NBPTS, mental health counselors with bachelor degrees counseling in schools, and the Interim E License, and present a progress report to the Governing Council at the 2007 conference and 2008 LDC, and to the Executive Council at the 2008 spring meeting.
