2008 Tennessee Counseling Association Conference

 

Call for Program Proposals for the TCA 51st Conference in Memphis, TN, November 22-25, 2008

 

General Instructions:  Please submit the following by postal mail:  (1) one printed copy of the Program Proposal following the format specified below; (2) using MS Word 2000 or higher, the Program Proposal & the resume/CV of the main presenter only on a 3 ˝ floppy disk or CD.  These will NOT be returned. (Please see any additional submission materials under Program Proposal Format, Chair and Co-presenters).

 

All proposals will be reviewed by the Proposal/Interest Session Committee. Criteria for evaluation will include timeliness and quality of topic as well as clarity of objectives of session. Presentations may center on practice or theory, a single technique or an entire program.  Content sessions may explore a new topic, a new concept or a unique technique/method.

DEADLINE: Submission must be postmarked and/or received by July 1, 2008 Early submission is strongly recommended.  Notification of proposal acceptance/non-acceptance will be sent out by August 15, 2008.

 

PROGRAM PROPOSAL FORMAT:

Program Title:  Limit title to 80 characters for inclusion in the conference.  Your title should clearly and accurately describe the focus of your presentation.

Names of Main Presenter and Co-Presenters;   Name of organization/institutional affiliation (for conference program).

Key Themes for Your Presentation:  Provide one to two key words or terms that identify the key focus of your proposal (e.g., suicide and teens).

Intended Audience:  Please indicate the intended audience (elementary school, middle school, high school, college/university, community/mental health, private practice, or other).  If appropriate, you may put ALL.

Indicate Type of Session:  (1) 60 minute interest session; or (2) 90 minute content session [extended session for experiential or more in-depth discussion of subject/topic; or (3) 2-hour content session [MAY be considered if extenuating circumstances can be justified].

Synopsis of Program:  Provide a 200 word (maximum) synopsis of the content of your program.  Be as clear and concise as possible, with the goal of providing participants with a brief overview of goals, objectives, content, and presentation format of your program.  (Please note: As an NBCC approved continuing education provider, TCA is seeking presentations that meet criteria for offering NBCC continuing education credit for nationally certified counselors. At least one identifiable objective of the content must be focused on how counseling professionals may use the knowledge presented to aid clients with mental health related issues/concerns).

Program Summary: In 60 words or less, describe your presentation (using present or future tense). If your proposal is accepted, this is the description that will be used in the conference program guide.

A/V Equipment: Presenters should be prepared to provide their own A/V equipment or arrange rental directly with the hotel A/V personnel prior to the conference at the expense of the presenter.  TCA will only furnish the following—and only upon request of the presenter:  1) Screen; 2) Power strip and extension cord; 3) Cart upon which to place the A/V equipment. Presenters must indicate their request for the desired TCA provided equipment (noted above) on the proposal submission form. It will be assumed that no AV equipment is requested if there is failure to follow the above guidelines.

CONTACT INFORMATION

Chair (Main Presenter and Contact Person):  Provide complete contact information for the program chair, including name, credentials, organization/institutional affiliation, primary mailing address, day and evening phone number, and email address. 

Co-presenters:  Provide complete contact information for each co-presenter for the program, including name, credentials, (i.e., Jane Doe, MA, LPC/MHSP) organizational/institutional affiliation, primary mailing address, day and evening phone number, and email address.

All presenters must provide handouts. Please bring a minimum of 50 per session. (Are handouts available electronically should there not be enough handouts for attendees?)

 

IMPT: All presenters AND co-presenters are required to register for the conference.
