WTCA Report

Since the last Governing Council meeting, WTCA had two events, one in September and the other in November.  In September, we held a meeting at Baptist College of Health Sciences.  During this meeting we had a tribute to a long time member, Ruth Mitchell.  She was a former counselor at BCHS and the staff their spoke about her recent retirement and how they would miss her.  During this meeting our members approved $1,000 be used to sponsor the TCA Conference.  In November, we held a meeting at Rhodes College.  Our speaker was Nancy Johnson, LPC.  She spoke about a research survey she had done on counseling multiracial clients.  We felt this would be in keeping with the TCA theme for the Conference this month.

WTCA has four goals for this year.  First, we would like to increase membership by 10%.  In August, we were able to attend the University of Memphis New Student Orientation. We told the students about TCA membership benefits and passed out TCA Conference registration forms.  Also, at each WTCA meeting, membership applications were made available to all non-members.  At each meeting we were able to get membership applications and checks.  This was then mailed to TCA the following day.  At the meetings we had 10 applications and checks for new or renewing members.

Next, we would like to create our own website.  In order to raise money for this website, we plan to use the booth we have for the TCA Conference to sell items.  The money raised will go to help pay for our website domain.  We hope to have our own website by next summer.

In addition, we would like to revise our by-laws.  So far, the revisions have been made and the members will get an old and new version at our January meeting and then hopefully we can approve the revisions at our next meeting in March.

Our final goal is to have 100% participation from the WTCA Board members during the TCA conference.  I have e-mailed all board members and stressed the importance for us all to attend and volunteer for the Conference.

We have the following events planned for next year:  WTCA meetings in January and March and a WTCA Awards Banquet in April.  It is our goal to continue to provide quality professional development for all of our members in addition to meeting all four goals outlined for the year.

 Respectfully Submitted,

 Candice Armstrong
