TCA Awards Chair Potential Changes:
1. Two people need to be appointed to this position and be co-chairs. This position requires too much work time in a short period.
2. Because the due date for awards submissions has been moved up to Dec. 1, the turn-in date for ALL TCA board and committee chairs as well as Chapter Presidents and President-Elects needs to be no later than October 31. This date needs to be announced at summer leadership, emailed Sept. 1, Sept. 15, October 1, October 15, and October 24 to TCA volunteers to remind all that this information is due. In the Sept. 1 email, the awards chairs need to explain what needs to be turned in for the awards in a similar format as had been described at leadership conference in the summer. This way, all of those involved with TCA will understand the expectations.
3. A short time needs (15-30 minutes) to be set aside at the November conference for the awards chairs to ask any remaining questions to the executive board in case they do not understand some of the infrastructure of TCA. I had to do this in November ’07 to tie together some writing sections. Because I had to meet with TCA members separately, this took about an hour of my time at the conference.
4. Just a reminder to future Awards Chairs: If you begin writing after the conference, you will spend about 20-25 hours of your time Thanksgiving week typing up the awards submissions. A better plan would be to begin writing before the conference and finalize any unfounded information at that point. With two awards chairs typing separate awards submissions, the project should take more like 10-12 hours per person.
5. Reviewing what had been written in the past was beneficial in writing the ’07-’08 submissions. Past TCA award-winning submissions will be given to Debra Watson or another middle Tennessee candidate who will be attending TCA summer leadership conference so materials can be given to the new chair.
