The Tennessee Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (TACES) is the division of the Tennessee Counseling Association that represents counselor educators and supervisors in the state of Tennessee and is the state chapter of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES).

Our Purpose

The purpose of TACES is to foster the development and improvement of counselor education and supervision in the state of Tennessee; and to provide an organization through which those engaged in these services can exchange ideas, seek solutions to common problems, stimulate their professional growth, and establish and improve standards of professional services.

2017 TACES Essay Competition

Submit by August 1st, 11:59p.m.

Calling ALL Counseling graduate students in Tennessee! We want to hear your voice.

As future professional counselors and counselor educators, your thoughts on the needs, roles, and functions of your profession matter. This year, you have an opportunity to develop your counselor identity through the first ever TACES Essay Competition. The top three master’s and doctoral essays will be considered for publication in the Tennessee Counseling Association Journal. In addition, winning essays will receive the following awards AND a free student registration to the Tennessee Counseling Association conference in November 2017:

1st place – $250 award | 2nd place – $150 award | 3rd place – $50 award

Objectives of this initiative include:

  • To develop ethical awareness and competence in graduate students.
  • To support advocacy of the profession through scholarly work.
  • To engage current and future TCA and TACES members in the organizations.
  • To recognize excellence in future counselors and counselor educators of Tennessee.

Essay prompt and rules HERE!


  1. Each completed essay should be submitted to in .doc or .docx format. In the body of the email, students must include the following information: author/student full name, name of university, level (masters or doc), TCA membership number, name and email of faculty advisor, and author’s preferred email address.
  2. No identifying information should be included in the essay (e.g., name of program, professor, student) to ensure a blind scoring process
  3. Each submitted essay must be the author’s original work, not previously submitted elsewhere (e.g., another publication, class assignment).
  4. Students may consult with mentors, supervisors, and/or faculty members while drafting their essays, but all writing must be the students’ own work.
  5. Each essay can have only one author.
  6. All submissions should adhere to APA Style, and should be no more than 7 pages in length (including references). Essays do not need an abstract or title page.
  7. All submissions should include reference to relevant sections of counseling codes of ethics.

Legacy League

Initiated in 2015, the TACES Legacy League is an elite recognition of TACES members, past and present, who have made a significant and lasting impression on TACES or on the counselor education and supervision profession. Members honored through the Legacy League are recognized not for their personal achievements but rather the impact, influence, and contributions they have made to other professionals and to the profession.
