South Central Counseling Association

Report to TCA Executive Committee

November 2007

The South Central Counseling Association started off the year with an Executive Board meeting in July.  At that time we set dates for upcoming meetings and set goals for the coming year.

Our first fall meeting was on August 23, 2007 at Legends Restaurant in Columbia where Dr. David Craig from King’s Daughters spoke to us about Autism.  He gave us useful information about working with autistic children and gave us handouts that helped us understand this disorder.

Our second meeting was on September 20, 2007 also at Legends Restaurant.  Our speaker, Amy Wiley, acquainted us with the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program.  This is a trained group of volunteer advocates who are appointed by a Juvenile Judge to be the voice for an abused or neglected child in court.

At both meetings we stressed the importance of membership in TCA and SCCA.  In addition, we encouraged members to attend the 50th Anniversary Celebration in Cool Springs in November.

We made a goal to reach more of the Mental Health Counselors in our area.  In order to accomplish this we spent much of our time choosing topics that would meet the need of this group.  We then located speakers that met this criterion.
